Developed by the City Parks Alliance (CPA) and National Association for Olmsted Parks (NAOP) partnership, the objectives of the Parks Practices Web site are to:
- Highlight the experiences of city parks organizations from around the country — both our successes and failures.
- Facilitate a sharing of lessons learned.
- Provide opportunities for interaction among city park leaders and citizens.
- Strengthen further interest in the role of parks as centers of our common heritage, a strong network of park supporters, and greater investment in revitalizing city parks across the country — resulting in healthier and more vibrant urban communities.

For decades, Schenley
Plaza had ceased to be the grand entrance to
Pittsburgh’s
flagship park and was something far less
inviting: an asphalt parking lot.
Today, Schenley Plaza makes its grand entrance
as the
city’s newest park. This transformation
occurred via a lengthy process that
succeeded only by bringing together
stakeholders from the entire community. To
