National Association for Olmsted
Parks
(NAOP) is an advocacy and research organization
that is building a
constituency of support for the legacy of
Frederick Law Olmsted; his
step-son, John Charles; and his son, Frederick
Law Olmsted Junior.
Spanning ninety years of work, the Olmsteds and
their firm designed
1,000 public parks, the grounds of the U.S.
Capitol, residential
developments, college campuses, private
residences and more. The
Olmsteds established important landscape design
principles and left
copious records of their work. The Olmsted work
is as valid today as it
was when designed 150 to 60 years ago.
NAOP
seeks to advance these principles to a new
generation of landscape
designers and users in addition to ensuring
that parks' leaders and
users know and understand the site's history.
Established in 1980,
NAOP is a diverse group with
practitioners, historians, civic activists, and
Olmsted park leaders and scholars.
